Out-of-Network Insurance
An out-of-network insurance policy is a type of health insurance plan that allows you to receive medical services from mental health professionals and healthcare providers who are not part of the insurance company's network. However, there are a few key points to understand about how out-of-network insurance policies work:
Reimbursement: If you use an out-of-network provider, you will need to submit the claims to your health insurance company manually. The insurance company will review the claim and reimburse you based on your policy's out-of-network benefits.
Pre-authorization: Some out-of-network services may require pre-authorization from your insurance company before they will provide coverage. It is crucial to check with your insurer about their pre-authorization requirements for out-of-network services.
Limited Coverage Area: Some insurance plans, especially those with restricted networks, may have limited or no out-of-network coverage at all. Always check your insurance policy's terms and conditions or contact the insurance company directly to understand your coverage options.
Limited Confidentiality and Privacy: If you choose to ask your insurance provider for reimbursement you are granting the insurance company the right to access your records and possibly limit the number of sessions you attend. Some clients prefer to continue service through private pay to insure their privacy and treatment options.
If you have a PPO, you may be able to request reimbursement through your insurance provider. Lauren Perez Therapy requires full payment at the time of service but can provide you with a record of services or a “super bill” that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. If you are interested in using Out of Network benefits for PPO plans, I suggest you contact your provider and ask:
1. Do I have Out of Network coverage?
2. How much of the $185 fee would you cover?
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
Under this law that went into effect January 1, 2022 you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.
Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.
